Assistance needed as more flooding hits Vermont

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when through the rivers, they won’t sweep over you. … — Isaiah 43:2

Friends, our neighbors in Vermont have again been hit by devastating flooding.

Several towns in the Northeast Kingdom received 5-8 inches of rain in six hours last night resulting in flash flooding and the need for many swift water rescues.  Some communities are instructed to shelter in place.

Major and minor roads in the areas of Danville, Lyndonville, St. Johnsbury, Morgan, Holland, and Morgan Center were severely compromised.

The following article from vtdigger.org offers a sense of the scope of the most recent flooding and the toll this is taking on residents:

These seemingly unending storms are upending lives and livelihoods. The damage to homes and property as well as roads and bridges is widespread. For many folks this is the second, third or fourth time (or more) they’ve been hit.

I am proud to say that the New England Conference and The United Methodist Church, through UMCOR, are already at work helping folks with recovery and rebuilding and will continue to be there.

But, as you know, flood recovery is costly. I am writing today to urge you to donate to support this important work. Your donation not only provides material support, it sends a powerful, compassionate message that we stand with our neighbors as they face this challenge.

I have seen your amazing generosity in my time here, and I know you can do it again. Below is information on how you can give. Thank you!
